This year marks the 117th anniversary of the birth of Astrid Lindgren, an author whose books continue to inspire reading in many children to this day. It is in her honor that the international children's literature award, the Astrid Lindgren Literary Award, is given.
This award primarily highlights the importance of reading for current and future generations. It was created in 2002 by the Swedish government to promote every child's right to read!
We are delighted to announce that the Universal Reading Foundation has been nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award 2025!
It is a great honor to be among the nominees from all over the world, the best promoters of reading! Among the distinguished from Poland are also the wonderful: Cała Polska Czyta Dzieciom, Józef Wilkoń and Iwona Chmielewska. We are glad that we can be among this excellent group, and all thanks to Tone Larssen Rogne on behalf of the organization IFLA Libraries for Children and Young Adults Section, who nominated the Foundation! Thank you very much!
It is great news that FPC's activities for the idea of universal reading, combating reading exclusion and including everyone in the culture of books have been appreciated. The Foundation congratulates all co-nominees. It is wonderful that so many people from distant countries are united by a common mission. It is an honor to be noticed alongside such large organizations as Dolly Parton's Imagination Library or the Global Network for Early Years - Book Gifting, which is part of #EURead.
The results will be announced on April 1, 2025. The Universal Reading Foundation works to promote reading every day, among everyone, starting from childhood. Children's literature is the first step to being a reader!
